The Association of Missouri Interpreters (AMI) is a professional, non-profit organization established to assist and support the work of individuals and groups engaged in resource interpretation. Those involved in interpretation are naturalists, tour guides, historians, environmental educators, and zoo staff. Interpreters work in nature centers, historic sites, state parks, museums, schools, and zoos in Missouri. Membership is open to any person or organization with an interest in promoting the interpretation of Missouri's natural, cultural, and historical resources.

Benefits of membership include:

Discounted Registration to the annual AMI Conference. Every year, interpreters from around the state gather to study, discuss, and hone their craft among their peers. The annual AMI Conference features sessions, forums, and field trips, and is a great chance for professional development and networking. The workshop location changes every year, accomodating more interpreters and featuring new resources to explore.

The AMI Interpreters' Directory. An ever-evolving guide to interpreters and interpretive sites in Missouri. All AMI members receive the directory free of charge.

The AMIgo. Members also receive the AMI's quarterly newsletter, the AMIgo. This newsletter is a great way to keep up with interpretation around the state. The AMIgo also features articles on interpretation penned by AMI members.

Chapter Membership in NAI. AMI is a recognized chapter of the National Association for Interpretation (NAI). Chapter membership is available to all NAI members at no extra charge. Interpreters may also choose to belong only to AMI.

AMI is dedicated to keeping interpretation alive in Missouri.

Here are just a few ways AMI recognizes and supports local interpreters.

AMI recognizes outstanding interpreters in the state of Missouri. AMI annually awards Missouri's "Distinguished Interpreter of the Year" and the state's overall "Best Interpretive Effort." Winners are recognized at the annual AMI Conference.

AMI supports the future of interpretation. Each year, the organization awards one undergraduate and one graduate scholarship to students who plan on entering the interpretive field. Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education in the state of Missouri. Scholarships include $300 cash, plus paid registration and expenses for the annual AMI Workshop. Recipients are recognized at the annual AMI Conference.
