Buffalo Soldiers: From Slave to Soldier at the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site

In honor of Black History Month, Battle of Lexington State Historic Site and the Missouri Humanities Council are co-hosting a “Show Me: Missouri Speaker’s Bureau” event. John Bruce will be presenting “Buffalo Soldiers: From Slave to Soldier” at the historic site visitor center on Tuesday, Feb. 25. Join us to learn about a former slave who was destined to change the course of American history and the world, during the Civil War.

John is the current president of the Alexander/Madison Chapter of the Buffalo Soldier 9th & 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association in Kansas City, the organization’s oldest chapter in the nation.
