Park Day 2021 at the Battle of Lexington State Historic Site

Join a national movement to preserve Civil War battlefields and historic sites on April 10, 2021, at Battle of Lexington State Historic Site. Volunteers will meet at the visitor center and work from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in small, socially distanced groups (by household) to complete projects including invasive species removal, landscaping and fence work.

Missouri Days Fall Colors Hikes at Crowder State Park
October 17, 2020 – October 18, 2020
Join park staff at the equestrian parking lot on Saturday, Oct. 17 or Sunday, Oct. 18 at noon or 3 p.m. for a guided 2-mile hike to the Thompson Cemetery and Thompson House. Park staff will point out fall foliage and interesting features along the way.
To reach the equestrian parking lot from the park entrance, travel west on Highway 146 for 1.3 miles. Turn right (north) onto Northwest 52nd Avenue. Travel 2.1 miles and turn right (east) onto Dove Lane. Dove Lane makes a 90-degree turn before ending at the equestrian parking lot (0.4 mile).

CANCELLED: Grand Festival of Chez les Canses at Fort Osage National Historic Landmark

Explore how early French settlers lived at the confluence of the Missouri and Kansas Rivers in the late 1700s. Re-enactors will interpret everyday life skills common on the frontier. Artisans will display custom made wares, both decorative and utilitarian, which were essential to these early settlers.

Interpretive Kayak Tour at Knob Noster State Park
July 18, 2020 @ 9:30 am – 11:30 am
Meet our local wildlife and enjoy the scenic views of the lake on an interpretive guided tour with park staff. This beginner-level tour will last one hour and is open to anyone 10 or older.
Participants are expected to know how to kayak before attending program. Children 10 to 17 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Kayaks, life vests and paddles will be provided. Pre-registration is required. Registrants must arrive 10 minutes early and meet at the kayak hut at Lake Buteo, which is located down the road from the Knob Noster State Park Visitor Center and across the street from the campground.
PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. Only three spots allowed per registration, per family/group. Only 10 spots are open per tour. Registration fills early. A waitlist will be created once registration is filled. Courtesy calls will be made to registrants on Friday before tour. Failing to notify of absence or not attending when registered will prohibit individuals/groups from registering for future kayak tours.

Canceled: National Trails Day Guided Bike Ride at Katy Trail State Park

Celebrate National Trails Day on June 6, 2020, by participating in a guided bike ride on the Katy Trail.
Participants will meet park staff at 10 a.m. at the Windsor trailhead, located at mile marker 248 (38° 32′ 9.1788″ N, 93° 31′ 28.8012″ W) in Windsor. Please note that each person participating in this event is required to wear a bicycle helmet and bring their own bicycle. Bicycles will not be provided for this event. Closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and personal drinking water are highly suggested.
Before the guided bike ride, Missouri State Parks rangers will present basic bicycle safety. Following this information, the ride will be guided by a park naturalist. The distance covered on the ride will be determined by those participating in the out-and-back ride, but the total program is expected to last about two hours.

Join the Hi Lonesome Chapter of Missouri Master Naturalists and Knob Noster State Park staff in a tasty demonstration on care and cooking with a Dutch oven on Saturday, May 2. The program will take place at the WPA Picnic Shelter, which is located on the east side of the park, down the road from the visitor center and the campground.

Leap Year Hike at Crowder State Park

It’s a leap year! What should you do with your extra day? Enjoy the outdoors on a 6.5-mile hike! Join park staff at the equestrian parking lot for a guided hike on a portion of North Thompson Trail and all of South Thompson Trail. This is an excellent opportunity to hike the interior of the park before spring arrives.
Participants should bring water and snacks and wear weather-appropriate clothing and footwear.
The equestrian parking lot can be reached by driving west on Highway 146 to the town of Edinburg. Turn right onto 52nd Avenue. Then, turn right onto Dove Lane. Dove Lane ends in the equestrian parking lot.
